In this paper, we introduces a multi home agent and pointer-based location management scheme. Multi home agent preserves the location information for different wireless technologies (Universal Mobile Telecommunication system, Wireless Local Area Networks) and maintains a cache for the location information of mobile host. In addition, an index based call delivery system has been proposed. The performance comparisons and numerical analysis are helpful to find out the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed system, with respect to existing location management techniques (single registration scheme, and dual home agent scheme). It has been observed that the registration cost, call setup delay, registration delay and overhead at mobile switching center are reduces in the proposed MHA–PB scheme. An efficient non-repudiation billing protocol in heterogeneous 3G-WLAN networks

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

A Forwarding Pointer-Based Cache Scheme for Reducing Location Management Cost in PCS Networks

This paper proposes a forwarding pointer-based cache scheme (PB-Cache scheme) that can reduce the signaling cost for location management in PCS networks. In the existing cache scheme, the use of cache information can effectively reduce the signaling traffic for locating frequently called mobile users. However, when the cache information is obsolete, it results in much more signaling traffic tha...

QoS-Aware Multi-tier Location Managements for Integrated WLAN/UMTS Networks

This paper addresses quality of service (QoS)-aware multi-tier location managements for integrated WLAN/UMTS networks. Single registration (SR) and multiple registration (MR) schemes are introduced and improved to support both voice and data services efficiently. The performance of the improved SR and MR schemes is analyzed based on mobility and traffic characteristics of mobile users. The resu...

A Two-Threshold Guard Channel Scheme for Minimizing Blocking Probability in Communication Networks

In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...
